Blind Veterans UK is the national charity supporting vision-impaired ex-Service men and women across the UK. Founded in 1915 as St Dunstan’s, the charity has spent more than a century empowering veterans to live independently through specialist rehabilitation, training and lifelong support. Today, Blind Veterans UK supports over 3,600 members each year through innovative services, a dedicated volunteer network and state-of-the-art facilities, including its new centre in Rustington, West Sussex. Following a period of significant transformation, the organisation is focused on sustainable growth and extending its reach to the estimated 30,000 veterans across the UK living with significant sight loss.


Meetings- London - 4 times per year

The Charity is now seeking a Trustee with a clinical background as they look to the future.

You will work closely with the Board and the Executive team to ensure the Charity operates effectively, ethically and in alignment with its objectives.


Responsibilities:


· Governance and Compliance – Ensure the Charity meets all legal, financial, and regulatory obligations, including those set by the Charity Commission.

· Strategic Leadership – Help set and then oversee the Charity’s vision, mission, and long-term objectives.

· Financial Oversight – Monitor budgets, financial health, and funding strategies to ensure sustainability and prudent expenditure.

· Risk Management – Identify and mitigate key strategic risks, ensuring responsible decision-making.

· Stakeholder Engagement – Support relationships with donors, partners, members, and the wider community.

· Policy and Ethical Standards – Uphold and review policies on safeguarding, equality, and governance best practices.

· Decision-Making and Accountability – Attend board meetings, contribute to key decisions, and hold leadership accountable.


Who are we looking for ?


· A strong connection to or supporter of the UK Armed Forces and Veterans’ Community


· A leadership role in the health and/or care sectors with particular emphasis on managing or directing clinical/care pathways, patient safety and quality


· Commitment to the Charity’s mission and values.


· Understanding of governance, compliance, and financial management (previous trustee or non profit experience beneficial but not essential as training will be provided).


· Strong decision-making skills and ability to contribute to strategic discussions.


· Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.


· Willingness to dedicate time to meetings, planning, and organisational growth.


· A commitment to acting in the best interests of the Charity and its stakeholders, ensuring transparency, fairness, and accountability.
