Job Overview
Consultant Radiologist with an interest in Breast Imaging
Applications are invited for a locum consultant post in breast screening and breast symptomatic at St George's University Hospitals Foundation Trust.
Main Duties
The successful post holder will join a friendly and cohesive team of radiologists with diverse expertise in a busy department that has a strong record of teaching, training and research.
The applicant will work within the existing breast imaging team providing support for the co-located symptomatic and screening services, which are part of the SWL Breast Screening Service. The successful candidate will be expected to have appropriate experience in breast imaging in both the screening and symptomatic settings.
A wide range of experience in general radiology is required.
It is expected that applicants will have the Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists and a CCT in Radiology or equivalent training and experience, with specialist accreditation/experience in Breast Imaging.
This post will be 9 PA in total.
Detailed Responsibilities
The post will encompass a combination of screening and symptomatic breast sessions within the breast unit which is a co-located service on the St George's site.
The majority of sessions will be within the Rose Centre at St George’s Hospital which hosts the symptomatic breast service and the SW London breast screening service. The successful applicant will join a very friendly cohesive and supportive team of 9 radiologists and 4 Consultant Practitioners who undertake screening, symptomatic breast imaging and general radiology.
Assessment is undertaken at the Rose Centre. The symptomatic and screening services diagnose approximately 700 cancers per year.
Applicants should have subspecialty training in all aspects of Breast Imaging.
Person Specification
- Full registration with GMC
- CCT in radiology (or within 6 months at time of interview)
- Medical Degree
- Sub Speciality training in Breast Imaging
Experience
- Reporting all aspects of breast imaging, mammograms, breast ultrasound.
- Ability to take full and independent clinical responsibility and undertake all practical breast interventions under ultrasound and stereotactic guidance.
- A wide experience in general imaging.
- Experience of teaching undergraduates, postgraduates and trainee specialists.
- Experience in the use of tomosynthesis in breast imaging and breast MRI.
Other
- Ability to work with colleagues as part of a team.

- Active interest in research, audit, clinical governance and teaching.
Knowledge
- Knowledge of legislation relating to radiology e.g. IRMR 2000.
- Understand the principles of Clinical Governance.
- Understanding of current breast diagnostic practice.
- Management of benign and malignant breast disease in the context of screening and symptomatic breast imaging.
Skills
- Breast Interventional procedures including ultrasound, stereotactic and vacuum procedures.
- Training and experience in all aspects of breast intervention and pre-operative localisation.
- Able to evaluate own radiological practice.
- Computer, PACS and VR software literate.
