The Role

As a Principle Technical Architect – Data, you will be a senior technical leader responsible for shaping and delivering advanced data, analytics, and artificial intelligence capabilities for Defence and National Security customers. The role focuses on designing mission‑aligned data architectures, driving the adoption of AI/ML technologies, and integrating data‑driven capability across complex systems.

Day‑to‑day, you will function as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders, the architect champions modern data practices, scalable architecture, and the responsible use of AI to deliver operations advantage and mission impact.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Taking leadership of defence and security Data Architecture defining secure, scalable, and mission‑focused data architecture across multiple platforms/environments
  • Shaping end‑to‑end data lifecycles and leading the design of data models, ontologies, data flows, and integration strategies
  • Translating mission problems into feasible AI/ML solutions and prototypes leading the early‑stage innovation, experimentation, and technology evaluation
  • Integrating data pipelines, analytical platforms, AI models, and mission systems into coherent system‑of‑system solutions
  • Leading data architecture and AI/ML components within major Defence & Security bids developing compelling strategies, architecture, and delivery approaches for customers
  • Leading and mentoring data engineers, AI/ML specialists, architects, and analysts

Essential experience of the Principle Technical Architect – Data:

  • Extensive experience designing and delivering data architectures and AI/ML solutions in Defence, Intelligence, or National Security environments
  • Demonstrated leadership in developing data strategies, integration, and AI‑enable capabilities
  • A strong understanding of Defence data domains, mission workflows, and operation contexts
  • Hands‑on knowledge of modern data platforms, pipelines, and technologies (cloud and on‑premises)
  • Proven ability to influence senior Defence stakeholders and lead multi‑disciplinary teams
  • Previous experience being involved in major complex bids and proposals within the Defence & Security domain

This role is 37 hours per week based at either our Farnborough or Malvern site. Hybrid working patterns are available. Customer travel will be required.
