Assistant Engineering Manager - Machining

Job description

The Role: To manage the daily operations of the Engineering department. To develop and implement process improvements. Continually develop the machine shop management system. Develop and maintain KPI reporting formats (Scorecard, Hex boards etc). Analyse downtime frequency and reject trends. Create action plans for improvement. Improve machine availability up time and reduce downtime across each product line. Support and manage new projects and new product start-ups. Work alongside the Projects department to source machinery/concepts for future business. Assist DCR requests from customers. Drive cost saving activity throughout the department using innovative techniques and technology. Develop RFQ process within the department to ensure correct costs and timings for any future business. Ensure sales RFQ submission deadlines are achieved by supplying the RFQ information on time. Create operator/technician training material and equipment work instructions. Implement fail-safes on machinery to avoid unnecessary damage and aid machine recovery at operator level. Support continuous improvement of the department: Represent the department in a positive and productive manner, internally and externally. Create and manage departmental budgets. Develop processes to reduce labour costs. Develop personnel to improve the departments performance. Communicate job expectations and company objectives and information. Deputise for Manufacturing Manager in his absence. Lead investigations and disciplinary meetings when necessary, with support of HR. Lead customer meetings when required. Participate with team working, information sharing and Continuous Improvement Programmes. Ensure compliance with the Company health, safety and environmental policies and management systems. Other duties as assigned.
