Veterinary Care Assistant - Reed - Royston

Job description

Veterinary Care Assistant (VCA)

Location: Royston, Hertfordshire

Salary: £12.71 per hour

Hours: Full Time

Join Our Team at Reed Veterinary Surgery

We are looking for a Veterinary Care Assistant (VCA) to join our team at Reed Veterinary Surgery in Royston.

For more than a decade, we've been building trusted relationships with pets and their owners whilst creating a supportive environment for our team. You'll be joining a close-knit practice that values continuity of care, strong relationships and exceptional veterinary care.

As part of Kin Vet Community, a small collective of like-minded community veterinary practices, we benefit from the support, shared expertise and collaborative approach that comes from working alongside teams who share our commitment to exceptional veterinary care. Whilst every practice retains its own culture, leadership and way of working, being part of Kin Vet creates greater opportunities to learn from one another, invest in our people and facilities, and continue evolving the services we provide to pets and their owners.

About the Role

As a Veterinary Care Assistant, you'll play a vital role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the practice and delivering outstanding care to our patients. Supporting our Veterinary Surgeons and Registered Veterinary Nurses, you'll help create a calm, clean and welcoming environment for both pets and their owners.

No two days are the same, making this an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys a varied, hands-on role and thrives in a busy veterinary practice.

Your Responsibilities

  • Supporting the clinical team with patient care and handling.
  • Preparing consulting rooms, theatres and clinical areas.
  • Cleaning and maintaining equipment to a high standard.
  • Assisting with the care and comfort of hospitalised patients.
  • Maintaining excellent hygiene and infection control throughout the practice.
  • Restocking clinical areas and monitoring supplies.
  • Supporting the wider team with day-to-day practice tasks.
  • Providing a warm, compassionate experience for clients and their pets.

About You

We're looking for someone who is caring, proactive and enjoys working as part of a supportive team. You don't need to know everything on day one-we're happy to support your development-but you should be enthusiastic, reliable and passionate about animal welfare.

You'll ideally have:

  • Experience working with animals or within a veterinary environment (preferred but not essential).
  • A positive, can-do attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Great organisation and attention to detail.
  • The ability to remain calm and compassionate in a busy clinical environment.
  • A genuine passion for delivering exceptional patient and client care.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary of £12.71 per hour.
  • Full-time, permanent position.
  • Generous holiday allowance plus bank holidays.
  • Company pension.
  • Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Staff discounts on veterinary services.
  • Access to a wide range of learning and development opportunities through Kin Vet Community.
  • A friendly, supportive team where you'll be encouraged to grow and develop your skills.

Ready to Apply?

If you're passionate about animal care and would love to be part of a welcoming, community-focused practice, we'd love to hear from you.
