Are you an experienced Health & Safety Advisor, HSE Advisor or SHE Advisor with experience in energy from waste, biomass, power generation, utilities, process engineering, manufacturing or heavy industry?

We are recruiting for a proactive and commercially aware Health & Safety Advisor to join an operational energy facility near Lanark.

This is a highly visible, hands-on role where you will work closely with the Plant Manager, operational teams, engineers, contractors and senior Group Health & Safety leadership.

You will be the principal source of day-to-day health and safety guidance on site, helping maintain compliance, improve safety performance and develop a positive behavioural safety culture.

The role

As Health & Safety Advisor, you will take ownership of site health and safety activity within a busy operational plant environment.

You will support day-to-day operations as well as planned plant outages, providing practical advice across contractor management, safe systems of work, incident investigation, auditing and operational risk.

Key responsibilities

• Provide practical health and safety advice to site management, employees and contractors
• Support the Plant Manager with UK legislation, Group standards and site HSE requirements
• Lead behavioural safety and continuous improvement initiatives
• Conduct site inspections, safety observations and compliance audits
• Develop and manage the site HSE audit and inspection programme
• Lead and support incident and near-miss investigations
• Complete root-cause analysis and ensure corrective actions are closed out
• Maintain and develop health and safety procedures and management systems
• Support continued implementation and development of ISO 45001
• Maintain H&S elements of the Integrated Business Management System
• Review operational risk assessments, RAMS and safe systems of work
• Support permit-to-work and contractor-management processes
• Monitor and report on site health and safety performance
• Produce incident, investigation and weekly HSE reports
• Support engagement with regulators, clients and other external stakeholders
• Represent the site at Group and UK health and safety forums

You will also form an important part of the site outage-management team.

Responsibilities will include:

• Developing outage health and safety plans
• Supporting CDM compliance
• Managing contractor HSE arrangements
• Reviewing permits, RAMS and safe-working documentation
• Conducting outage safety inspections and compliance audits
• Supporting incident investigations
• Attending outage planning and operational meetings
• Advising engineers, managers and contractors on safe working practices

You should have:

• NEBOSH General Certificate or higher
• Previous H&S experience within power generation, energy from waste, biomass, utilities, process manufacturing, engineering or heavy industry
• Experience working within a live operational or industrial environment
• Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation
• Experience conducting audits and workplace inspections
• Practical incident-investigation and root-cause-analysis experience
• Knowledge of ISO 45001 or similar management systems
• Experience reviewing risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work
• Confidence working with and challenging employees, managers and contractors
• Strong written reporting and communication skills
• Membership of a relevant health and safety professional body

An auditor qualification, formal incident-investigation training or experience as a lead investigator would be advantageous.
