Senior SEND Assessment & Review Officer
Location: Fully Remote
Contract: Initial 4-month contract
Hours: 37 hours per week
Rate: £369 per day (Umbrella)
The Opportunity
We're working with a South West Local Authority seeking an experienced Senior SEND Assessment & Review Officer to join its SEND Assessment and Review Team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced SEND professional looking for a role that combines strategic oversight, quality assurance, complex case management and staff support.
Working within a high-performing team, you'll play a key role in ensuring statutory responsibilities are delivered effectively and within legal timescales while helping to drive continuous improvement across the service.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and track EHC needs assessments, annual reviews, reassessments and phase transfers to ensure statutory compliance.
- Identify delays, risks and barriers to case progression and take appropriate action to resolve them.
- Provide guidance, support and coaching to Assessment and Reviewing Officers managing complex cases.
- Promote accountability by monitoring performance and ensuring cases progress appropriately.
- Undertake quality assurance activities across EHC plans, casework and decision-making.
- Manage a small caseload of complex, sensitive or high-profile cases.
- Work collaboratively with families, schools, health and social care professionals to secure positive outcomes for children and young people.
- Support managers with service improvement initiatives, performance monitoring and reporting.
Essential Requirements
- Significant experience working within SEND statutory services.
- Extensive experience managing EHCPs and statutory SEND processes.
- Strong knowledge of the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEND Code of Practice.
- Experience managing complex SEND casework.
- Previous experience supporting, mentoring or advising colleagues.
- Excellent organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to analyse information, make informed decisions and consistently meet statutory deadlines.
Desirable Experience
- Quality assurance experience.
- Team leadership or supervisory experience.
- A relevant qualification in education, SEND, social care or a related field.
