Clinical Fellow (ST3+ Level) in Gastroenterology
The successful applicant will gain broad experience across the full spectrum of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and General Internal Medicine. Clinical duties will include: Assessment and management of patients on the Gastroenterology and Hepatology inpatient ward, including provision of a Trust-wide inpatient referral service, with exposure to patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC). Participation in the General Internal Medicine registrar on-call rota, leading the acute medical take and providing senior support to the out-of-hours medical team. Attendance at one to two dedicated endoscopy training lists per week, with additional opportunities to undertake service endoscopy sessions where appropriate. Attendance at, on average, one outpatient Gastroenterology or Hepatology clinic per week (approximately four clinics per month). Participation in weekly multidisciplinary team meetings, including Hepatology, HPB and IBD MDTs, together with departmental Journal Club, radiology meetings and Clinical Governance meetings. Active involvement in clinical audit, quality improvement and service development projects. Opportunities to contribute to, and develop, the department's expanding clinical research portfolio. Allocation of a named Educational Supervisor to support professional development, career progression and achievement of individual learning objectives. Teaching The post holder will be expected to contribute to the education and supervision of junior medical staff and undergraduate medical students through informal bedside and workplace-based teaching. They will also be encouraged to participate in the department's educational programme, including presenting at Medical Grand Rounds and the departmental Journal Club. Teaching and Educational Programme The department has a comprehensive educational programme, including a weekly Gastroenterology radiology meeting, weekly Hepatobiliary (HPB), Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and Hepatology multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, a weekly Gastroenterology Journal Club, and a monthly Clinical Governance meeting. The post holder will be encouraged and expected to participate actively in these educational activities. Educational Approval Although this post does not have formal educational approval from NHS England (Severn Deanery), it offers excellent training opportunities within a supportive teaching environment. The successful applicant will have access to the department's established educational programme, regular outpatient clinics, endoscopy training lists and multidisciplinary meetings, and will be expected to participate fully in these activities as part of their professional development.
