We are looking for an experienced and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil within a Wigan school.
The successful candidate will support the pupil throughout the school day, helping them to access learning, engage within the classroom and participate fully in school life. Alongside their educational and pastoral support, the role requires someone who is trained and competent in catheter care/change procedures, in line with the pupils individual healthcare plan and school policies.

Key Responsibilities
Provide consistent 1:1 support to the pupil throughout the school day.
Support the pupil to access the curriculum and engage with classroom activities.
Promote independence, confidence and inclusion within the school environment.
Provide appropriate personal and intimate care where required.
Support with catheter care and catheter changes in accordance with the pupils healthcare plan, relevant training and agreed procedures.
Follow appropriate hygiene, infection-control and safeguarding procedures.
Work closely with teaching staff, the SEND team, parents/carers and relevant healthcare professionals.
Maintain the pupils dignity, privacy and wellbeing at all times.
Follow all school policies relating to safeguarding, medical needs and intimate care.

The Ideal Candidate
Has previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND.
Has catheter training and demonstrable competency in catheter care/change procedures .
Is comfortable providing personal and intimate care.
Has a calm, patient and nurturing approach.
Understands the importance of confidentiality, dignity and safeguarding.
Is reliable and able to provide consistency for the pupil.
Is confident working on a 1:1 basis while also supporting the pupil within the wider classroom environment.
Any catheter-related procedures must be carried out only where the individual has the appropriate training, competency and authorisation to do so, and in accordance with the childs healthcare plan and school procedures.
