Profile Senior Legal Counsel - Oil & Gas Contracts

Suriname and Guyana are one of the most exciting offshore oil and gas frontiers in the world. On behalf of our client, we are looking for a Senior Legal Counsel – Oil & Gas Contracts to lead the offshore legal team and to advise executive management on the contracts that shape the country's offshore future.

What you'll do

• Lead and coach the legal team supporting the offshore business.
• Draft, review and negotiate Production Sharing Contracts (PSCs), Joint Operating Agreements (JOAs) and other complex petroleum agreements.
• Advise executive management on legal, contractual and strategic offshore matters.
• Monitor contractual obligations and ensure compliance with petroleum and mining legislation.
• Advise on potential disputes and on international developments in the upstream oil and gas sector.

What you bring

• A law degree (LLB, LLM, JD or equivalent).
• 15+ years of relevant legal experience, including substantial time at senior level in a corporate or similarly complex environment.
• Proven upstream oil and gas experience, including drafting and negotiating PSCs and JOAs.
• Strong knowledge of petroleum law, contract law and international regulation.
• Experience advising senior management in an international, multidisciplinary setting.
• Excellent English.

• Dutch (Suriname's official language).
• Experience on both operator and non-operator sides of upstream contracts.
• Experience with international arbitration in the energy sector.
